Jefferson Rojas earned another look. Not a call-up clock.

Jefferson Rojas gave Mets fans a reason to check the Syracuse box score again. That is a useful result. It does not need a promotion date attached.

In his Triple-A debut on September 15, Rojas went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Syracuse's 9–1 win over Lehigh Valley, according to the club's report. A single and a homer made the first night easy to notice.

The temptation is to ask how quickly that performance gets him to Queens. Our question is less exciting and more useful: what would we need to see next before treating the debut as evidence of readiness?

Keep the highlight. Keep the denominator.

Two hits in five at-bats is a good opening line. It is also five at-bats. A fan can enjoy the home run without using it to settle a much larger question about a player's next job.

For our next check, we would want the whole set of plate appearances, not just another clip of contact. How often is he striking out? Is he drawing walks? What happens when he falls behind? Those are questions for subsequent reporting, not findings we are assigning to this debut.

We would also want a separate account of his defensive work. A home-run result tells us nothing by itself about a particular throw, a difficult chance or where he should play in a major-league lineup.
