WNBA · MVP award
A'ja Wilson wins record fifth MVP, her third straight
October 8 · Official award announcement
Updated
A'ja Wilson has moved the WNBA's MVP record again. The league announced her fifth award Thursday, making her its first player to win in three consecutive seasons. Her earlier wins came in 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Wilson received 65 of 74 first-place votes and all nine remaining second-place votes. Olivia Miles finished second, Kelsey Mitchell third, Caitlin Clark fourth and the Liberty's Breanna Stewart fifth. Wilson averaged 26.2 points and 1.9 blocks during the regular season, leading the league in both categories.
The ballot is decisive. October is a different test.
The historical weight is sustained control. An MVP argument must survive comparison with the rest of the league. Wilson keeps winning that comparison as the challengers change.
This is the regular-season award, not a prediction about the championship or a substitute for playoff results. Separating those questions lets fans appreciate what the vote actually recognizes: a season's work. The next postseason possession still has to be won.
