Updated

The Mets are changing three seats, not clearing the room. Director of hitting Jeff Albert, quality assurance coach Danny Barnes and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney will not return to the Major League staff in 2027, the team announced Tuesday.

Continuity around the openings

Every other big league coach is returning. That group includes hitting coach Troy Snitker, bench coach Kai Correa and pitching coach Justin Willard. Rafael Fernandez, Dan McKinney, Gilbert Gomez, Tim Leiper, Jose Rosado and J.P. Arencibia also remain on the staff.

Albert, Barnes and Mahoney may stay elsewhere in the organization, but the Mets have allowed them to speak with other clubs. Albert spent three years in the organization and one season on the Major League staff. Barnes served five years in several roles, while Mahoney spent two years with the Mets after 12 seasons as a player and coach in the Yankees organization.

A bounded adjustment under Green

This is a bounded adjustment around Andy Green, not a full reset. Green took over for Carlos Mendoza in June and signed a three-year contract through 2029. He and president of baseball operations David Stearns made the staff decisions after the season. Until the Mets announce replacements or revised responsibilities, the confirmed story is continuity with three openings.
