PAC, the Newcastle wrestler who soared in WWE and AEW, dies at 40
September 27 · AEW announced his death
Updated
Benjamin Satterley, the Newcastle-born professional wrestler known to AEW fans as PAC and to WWE fans as Neville, has died at 40. All Elite Wrestling announced his death Sunday, September 27. The promotion did not provide a cause of death, and none should be inferred from the timing of his final match.
Satterley began wrestling in 2004, according to AEW. His appeal crossed promotions and styles: a compact, powerful athlete whose aerial attacks could change the pace of a match in seconds, but whose offense also carried a hard edge. He made difficult movement look controlled without losing its danger or drama.
In WWE, performing as Adrian Neville and later Neville, he won the NXT Championship and the cruiserweight title. WWE's record shows two cruiserweight reigns in 2017. Those titles reflected two sides of his work, a high-flying standout in NXT and a sharper, more imposing presence as the self-styled King of the Cruiserweights.
From Neville to PAC
He joined AEW in 2019 and held multiple championships there, AEW said. As PAC, he brought the same athletic range to a different stage, combining sudden bursts from the ropes with a bruising ground game. The character could be severe; the precision beneath it was what made the performances last.
His career was not confined to one company or one name. Fans who found him through WWE's NXT years, the cruiserweight division or AEW saw different versions of the same wrestler, each built on an unusual blend of speed, strength and commitment to the moment.
AEW's official September 26 All Out results record his match against Andrade El Ídolo in Chicago. It was a match, not an explanation for his death. Neither AEW's announcement nor the reporting cited here established a cause, and speculation would add nothing to a remembrance of his work.
A final week in the ring
Forty is a painfully young age to lose a performer who was still active. Satterley's record is already substantial: championship runs, memorable rivalries and a style recognizable within a few movements. Our condolences are with his family, friends and colleagues.
