Separate October 18 practice injuries. Ben Simmons: torn right Achilles confirmed by MRI, season-ending; surgery next. Stephen Curry: sprained right ankle according to reporting of the team's classification; Kerr says fine. No absence timetable verified for Curry. Sources NBA.com, AP and San Francisco Chronicle, checked October 18 Eastern.

Ben Simmons' return with Sacramento has been stopped by a season-ending torn right Achilles tendon. Stephen Curry also left practice Sunday, but the Warriors' update was markedly different: a sprained right ankle, with Steve Kerr saying Curry was "fine." These are separate injuries with different confirmed consequences.

Simmons' diagnosis is confirmed

An MRI confirmed Simmons' tear, according to Shams Charania's follow-up carried by NBA.com. Josh Dubow of The Associated Press reports that the Kings said Simmons was hurt during a live drill and will need surgery. The initial reports described a suspected tear; the later confirmation supersedes that uncertainty. No surgery date or individual recovery timetable is established here.

Simmons had signed a one-year deal with Sacramento after sitting out last season, AP reports. His 2026-27 comeback will not begin as planned. The confirmed injury does not establish a decision about his contract or Sacramento's next roster move.

Curry's update is an ankle sprain, not a knee diagnosis

Curry's early exit at the Warriors' open scrimmage prompted concern about his right leg. Luca Evans of the San Francisco Chronicle subsequently reported the team's classification as a right ankle sprain and quoted Kerr saying Curry was doing fine after a visit to the training room. That later account should not be replaced by an inferred knee diagnosis from the initial footage.

Kerr's reassurance is an update, not a verified clearance for a particular game. No absence timetable was announced in the sources inspected. Simmons' season-ending diagnosis and Curry's practice scare should not be folded into a single claim about what either player will be able to do next.
