Mexico City reshapes the WWE and AAA title picture.

Mexico City hosted SmackDown on September 11, Triplemanía 34's second night on September 13 and Raw on September 14. Across that run, WWE and AAA changed champions, carried rivalries from one show into another and moved competitors toward the next major event.

SmackDown: Zayn takes the title

Sami Zayn defeated CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship. WWE's recap describes a finish involving Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Kevin Owens, with Owens accidentally striking Punk with the title before Zayn landed the Helluva Kick.

That finish gives the next episode more to resolve than a new name beside the belt: Punk's response and Owens' role are obvious storylines to follow. Elsewhere on SmackDown, Chelsea Green retained against Nia Jax, while Rey Fenix successfully defended the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Ricky Saints.

Triplemanía: more than one new champion

El Grande Americano beat Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship on Triplemanía's Mexico City card. In WWE's account, Rey Mysterio stepped in as referee for the deciding count after the original official had been taken out.

La Catalina also defeated Flammer for the Reina de Reinas Championship, ending a reign the official recap puts at 1,128 days. Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno took the AAA Tag Team Championship from The War Raiders. Those changes make this more than a single main-event result: several title programs now have new champions at the center.

Raw: Reigns holds, new challengers advance

Roman Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta on Raw. WWE's report describes Reigns catching a springboard attempt with a Superman Punch and finishing with a Spear. Chad Gable retained the Intercontinental Championship against Dragon Lee, while Je'Von Evans and Lola Vice qualified for Money in the Bank.
