Three set points separated Zheng Qinwen from losing the opening set. She saved them all, then beat Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday to become the first Chinese woman to win the China Open's WTA 1000 singles title.

Andreeva led 2-0 early. Zheng recovered, survived those set points in the 10th game and won the set's final 11 points. A break in the ninth game of set two set up the finish. The final lasted 1 hour, 43 minutes.

Zheng's first four matches in Beijing each went three sets. Her last three ended in two. Our read: the title route was demanding, but the finish became more efficient. That distinction says more than calling the entire tournament comfortable.

The WTA identifies this as her first WTA 1000 title, sixth tour title and first since Tokyo in 2024. She entered ranked No. 54 on a wildcard. The tour projects a return to the top 30 next week; that is not yet a published Monday ranking. Andreeva is projected to reach No. 3 despite the loss.
