Olivia Miles owns the WNBA rookie scoring record—and did it in 40 games.

Olivia Miles needed one point to move past Caitlin Clark. She finished with 21, a Minnesota victory and the WNBA record for points in a rookie season.

Miles entered Sunday's game tied with Clark at 769. She did not attempt a field goal in the first quarter, then made two free throws 29 seconds into the second to take the record. Minnesota beat Connecticut 101–89, and Miles ended the day with 790 points.

The record arrived at the line

The Lynx guard added six assists. Napheesa Collier scored 23, and the league-leading Lynx moved closer to securing the top playoff seed.

The total-point comparison carries an important detail: Miles and Clark each reached the end of game No. 40 with the record figure being discussed. Clark set 769 as a rookie in 2024; Miles passed it during her 40th appearance in 2026.

A fair comparison needs the same denominator

A scoring record does not settle every comparison between rookie seasons. Assists, shooting efficiency, defense, team context and minutes still matter. It does settle this one: no WNBA rookie has scored more points in a season than Miles has now.

Miles was the No. 2 selection in the 2026 draft after playing at Notre Dame and TCU. She has turned that pedigree into a record season for a title contender, making the Rookie of the Year discussion considerably less complicated than it was in May.
